Dubai Police Uses AI Technology to Arrest Gang That Stole $1.9 Million in BTC

Of course, cryptocurrency heists are more common than never before. Due to the increased value of virtual currencies, there are some criminal groups that decided to make profits by stealing other’s bitcoins.

But as technology moves forward, governments can also improve their methods in order to capture these thieves. That’s what the Police of Dubai did. They used Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in order to locate and arrest a gang that stole $1.9 million in Bitcoins.

Virtual Currency Heists

Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Commander in Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police, explained:

“Using AI helped Dubai Police to arrest a Gulf National, who is the head of the gang, and other Asian suspects. The information from the data analysis centre helped the officers to arrest all gang members.”

The police was able to track where the individuals of the band were located. In this way, they were to capture all the other members – that were in different emirates – arrested them, and recovered the money. Now, the suspects have been referred to public prosecution so as to finish the investigation.

This is not the first time that criminals decide to steal the Bitcoins of some investors. As we reported at UseTheBitcoin, the Taiwanese police was able to arrest the first bitcoin robbery suspects.

A Tai man and his friend, that wanted to sell their Bitcoins, suffered an attack from the buyers. When the seller showed that he had 18 Bitcoins on his position, the buyers attacked the two friends and stole their money. Immediately after, the robbers gave something to drink the victims, apparently, to simulate that they had an argument when they were drunk.

Fortunately, the police was able to caught one of the main suspects of the crime, which is now being investigated for the attack.
